Northern Ireland’s Nations League woes continue after a 1-0 defeat to Austria in Vienna.

Bottom of League B’s Group 3, without a point, Michael O’Neill’s side now face the real possibility of relegation.

Northern Ireland had their chances against the Austrians with Paddy McNair going close twice and substitute Will Grigg (pictured below) hitting the woodwork with a clever header.

Captain Steven Davis also had a gilt-edged opportunity to open his side’s account but somehow dragged his shot wide.

With Kyle Lafferty unavailable for selection, Josh Magennis led the line – and there was also a debut from the bench for Rotherham striker Kyle Vassell.

Austria bagged all three points when their talisman striker and captain for the night, Marko Arnautovic slotted home past Leeds keeper Bailey Peacock-Farrell on the 71st minute.

A big positive on the night for O'Neill was the performance of young Norwich defender Jamal Lewis (main picture) who seems to be growing in confidence with every game.

Northern Ireland now need a win away to Bosnia and Herzegovina in Sarajevo on Monday night to stand any chance of survival in the group.
