The long-running tug of war to seal a deal with Michael O'Neil continues.

The Scottish FA met last night and made it clear the Northern Ireland boss is their number one target.

It's believed a decision's now been taken to press ahead with the process that would include a potential £500,000 compensation deal to the IFA.

Meanwhile, a six-year contract is still on the table to entice O'Neill to stay put at Windsor.

It looks like it's now a two-horse race between both Associations.

There was talk O'Neill might be persuaded to take over at Aberdeen.

But late last night the Dons announced their manager McInnes had opted to stay -leaving caretaker boss Graeme Murty still in charge at Ibrox

Talks between the Scottish and Irish FAs are likely to continue today with a resolution expected by the beginning of next week.
