The Stena Line Belfast Giants are excited to announce the return of Steve Saviano for the new Elite League season. The 2017/18 season will be Saviano’s second consecutive season in Belfast following #12’s arrival last year.

Steve Saviano, a 5’7” 35 year old from Reading, Massachusetts in the U.S.A, posted 18 goals and 30 assists in his inaugural season with the Giants, good for 48 points in 56 games played.

Saviano picked up the Elite League Player of the Week accolade in February following his four-goal game against Fife and was also awarded the Coach’s Player of the Year Award at the Giants Awards Night in March.

The forward joined the Giants from the Bolzano Foxes of the Austrian Hockey League and posted 11 goals and 19 assists - helping his team advance to the end of season playoffs.

Before Bolzano, Saviano linked up with new Giants signing Dustin Johner during spells with Djurgårdens and Växjö Lakers HC of the Swedish Elite League.

Steve also had four successful years in NCAA hockey with the University of New Hampshire where he was team Captain, Hockey East All-Star as well as Player of the Year and also collected awards for Best Forward and Sportsmanship.

Steve Saviano’s signing was made possible by our partnership with the Ulster University Business School and Head Coach Adam Keefe is pleased to have the forward return for another season in teal:

“Having Savy back in Belfast for a second season is great for our team. He works hard every time he steps on the ice, his puck management is top notch."

"He's great in the room, the guys love him & he will be counted on this season to be a big leader on and off the ice for the Giants. I know the fans will be very happy to hear he will be back again.
