Kris Lindsay is tipping old club Glenavon for the Danske Bank Premiership title – just three weeks after leaving the Mourneview outfit for his first foray into management.

In his first full interview since becoming Dungannon Swifts boss at the end of September, the former Lurgan Blues coach was full of praise for Gary Hamilton and the players he left behind.

"They're absolutely flying at the minute - they're paying with confidence they're oozing confidents and they're on that run and that momentum is massive in our league and if they can keep that momentum going there's no reason that they can't, they've quality players all over the pitch,” he told us.

Lindsay was speaking as a guest on our latest BetMcLean football show in partnership with NIFL, now available to view on Cool FM’s Facebook page (see below) and to download as a podcast via the app.

He reveals that he turned down the chance to join David Healy’s backroom staff at Linfield to stay at Glenavon.

But when the lure of management came along, it was hard to resist.

The 34-year-old said while his move to Stangmore Park was tinged with some sadness, he has no regrets at all about leaving Mourneview Park.

“If Glenavon go on and win the league it will be great for them, I’d be slightly disappointed but I’ve got my own job to do there and if I can get Dungannon Swifts moving forward and moving up the league I’ll be happy and pleased with my season,” he told us.

While acknowledging the job in hand was a difficult one – the Swifts are currently bottom of the table – he was adamant they would not be relegated.

I've every confidence we will, with the quality we have in our squad, there's no doubt in my mind we will start picking up points and moving up the league but at the same token we need to make sure we deliver that and we need to start picking up points relatively quickly"

Josh Daniels joins his former coach on the show this week.

The 22-year-old former Derry City star, has made a flying start to the season with Glenavon.
