Bahamian athlete Shaunae Miller showed the world just how determined she was to win a gold medal with her stunning performance in the Women's 400m final which saw her ‘dive’ over the finish line.

The 22-year-old defeated six-time Olympic medallist, Allyson Felix in what proved to be a dramatic photo finish.

Miller started the race well and attempted to pull away from Felix, but with the American’s experience showing, the Bahamian had to give everything on the home straight and threw herself over the line to win gold in a time of 49.44 seconds, just 0.07 seconds in front of the American who took silver.

Watch the moment below:

It's unclear whether Miller intended to dive across the line or whether it was her momentum causing her to fall.

Miller’s finish led some viewers to accusing her of un-sportsmanship behaviour and said she ‘’cheated’ to win the race.

However, Olympic legend Michael Johnson believed it was just an ‘unbelievable effort' by the athlete to win the race.

It has led to some fans of the sport calling for a change in the rules. Miller's torso crossed the line before Felix's which is the reason why she won the race but some believe the athlete who's feet cross the line first should be crowned the winner.

Despite the controversy, an emotional Miller was clearly overwhelmed with her win. She said "It's such an amazing feeling. My coaches were so pumped. This is the moment I've been waiting for; I just gave it my all. I've never done it before. I have cuts and bruises, a few burns, but, hey, I got a medal out of it."
