Death of man in Cramlington crash being treated as murder

Detectives are treating the death of a man outside a Northumberland pub as murder.

Emergency services were called to reports of two men being struck by van outside the Bay Horse in the town of Cramlington last night.

A 55 year old was pronounced dead at the scene and another man of the same age was taken to hospital.

Three people have been arrested - and a vehicle was recovered in Blyth a short while later.

Northumbria Police have described what's happened as tragic and say their thoughts are with the victims' families.

Northumbria Police statement

"We've launched a murder investigation after a man died outside a Cramlington pub.

"Last night we received a report two men had been struck by a van outside the Bay Horse.

"A 55-year-old man was sadly pronounced as deceased at the scene and another aged 55 hospitalised.

"An investigation was immediately launched and we've since arrested three people on suspicion of murder - they remain in custody at this time.

"A vehicle was recovered from Broadway, Blyth, and additional officers have been deployed across both areas as inquiries continue.

"This is a tragic incident and our thoughts are with their families at this difficult time."
