As the heatwave grips much of the UK including Cornwall, a woman has shared photos of what looks like part of the road surface melted onto her tyres.

Louise Hanley posted a warning to a local Facebook group after the incident on the road from Hayle to Leedstown.

Louise said: "Warning! I have just driven the road from Hayle to Leedstown and the tarmac has literally melted onto my tyres.

"I am currently at the garage trying to scrape them clean".

Louise told us mechanics had managed to scrape away most of the sticky substance, but she might need new tyres anyway.

Louise added: "It was so strange because it sounded like I was driving through water (I was stuck behind a tractor at the time).

"But when I pulled over half the road was stuck to the tyres!"

It happened just hours after the Met Office issued its first ever extreme heat warning across the south-west.

Some areas could see highs of 33C by day, with temperatures are expected to remain high at night as well.
