A man in his 50s has suffered serious injuries following a motorcycle crash near Berwick.

Emergency services raced to the scene on Duns Road after the alarm was raised around 10.20am this morning (Saturday).

It had initially been reported that two vehicles had been involved in a collision.

But it's now believed there was only one.

The blue Yamaha YZF motorcycle – carrying a rider and passenger – had been travelling northbound, near to the junction with Halidon Terrace, when "for reasons yet to be established", the two casualties have come off the bike.

The man riding it was rushed to hospital by ambulance, but the woman with him was not seriously injured.

Their next of kin have been informed and are being supported by officers.

Part of the A6105 road - which runs between the Scottish Borders and Northumberland - was closed for several hours, but has since re-opened.

A spokesperson for Northumbria Police said: "Officers from Northumbria Police’s Roads Policing Unit have launched a full investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the collision – and have appealed for witnesses to come forward.

"They are particularly keen to hear from motorists who were driving in the area at the time, and any witnesses who may have dashcam footage or CCTV which could assist their enquiries."

Anyone with information or footage should get in touch using the ‘Report’ page of the Northumbria Police website or by calling 101, quoting log number: NP-20240504-0325.
