Police are appealing for information following a collision in the Borders which has left an 11-year-old girl fighting for her life in hospital.

Scottish Borders Council has confirmed one of its bin lorries was involved in the incident - involving a vehicle and a pedestrian - on the A6105, just east of Gordon, Berwickshire.

It happened near a junction with an unclassified road, as children were making their way to school, shortly after 8am this morning (Wednesday).

The youngster was airlifted to the Royal Hospital for Children and Young People in Edinburgh, where medical staff described her condition as "critical".

Inspector Ross Drummond, from Police Scotland, said: "Our enquiries into this collision are ongoing and we are keen to speak to the drivers of other vehicles which were travelling on the A6105 at the time.

"We would also ask anyone who may have dashcam footage that captures the vehicle or the pedestrian involved prior to the collision happening to contact police".
