School Closures Procedure

The information below is for staff members of schools in the Greater Manchester region (including Bolton, Bury, Oldham, Rochdale, Stockport, Tameside, Trafford, Wigan, and the cities of Manchester and Salford), who wish to get their schools featured on the Hits Radio School Closures list.

Hits Radio (formerly Key 103) have many family listeners in Greater Manchester, making it a great additional communication tool for speaking to parents. This service compliments text message alert sent directly from schools, for example - parents that don't have access to their mobile phone or those needing to know how else their community is being affected by the bad weather.

Notifying Us:

Be prepared to call us as early as possible on the day of the closure (notifications in advance won't be accepted) on our dedicate Snow Line number 0161 288 5103. This is a recorded message service.

Please note we will only accept school closure information from official members of staff at the school and callers will be asked security questions to prove their identity.

If you are an official member of staff and would like to know more about the security information you’ll need to provide, please email schools@hitsradio.co.uk.

On-Air:

With so many schools closing we may be unable to mentioned every single school on-air, however we aim to mention a few of the most recently closed schools every 20 minutes between 6.30am and 10am. The on-air presenters will also explain that the entire list is here on our website (within the Manchester section).

Online:

The online list will be updated as soon as possible between 6.30am and 10am in the Manchester section of our website, with schools either being listed with full or partial closure information (if supplied). At the end of the day the list will be reset.
