An emotional Corey Taylor fought back tears paying tribute to his late friend Chester Bennington on stage last night (20th July).

Just hours after news of Chester’s death emerged, Corey took to the stage at the Xfinity Center in Mansfield, Massachusetts with Stone Sour on the latest leg of their tour with Korn.

Pausing proceedings eight songs in, a visibly emotional Corey told the 12,000 fans in attendance: "We all lost somebody today.

"I lost a friend… and this was one of his favourite songs. And I wanna dedicate to him. Chester, we will f---ing miss you."

Stone Sour then launched into a powerful performance of their 2006 anthem ‘Through Glass’. You can watch the poignant moment here:

Testament to the strength of their friendship, back in May, Chester heeded Corey’s advice to “appreciate his fans” more after several outspoken interviews.

In an interview that hit headlines around the world with Kerrang! Radio’s Loz Guest, Chester told fans: "If you call us sell-outs, I’ll punch you in your f---ing mouth."

He added: “When you make it personal, like a personal attack against who we are as people, like dude shut up. That means that I can actually have feelings about it and most of the time my feelings are I want to kill you.”

Offering Chester his sage advice, Corey said: "I understand where he's at. God, I would've never say it the way he did, but you get frustrated and you want people to embrace the evolution. At the same time, you should probably be very, very fortunate that people this far along the line still love that music you made."

Taking on board Corey’s wise words, Chester posted four tweets promising to change his ways and stop berating fans.

Admitting that he agreed with Corey, Chester said: “I’m human and sometimes take things too personally” before adding “Time to recalibrate my perspective. So I say to all of our fans... Thank you and I love you all. Peace, love and happiness.”

Chester Bennington’s body was discovered shortly before 9am local time yesterday morning (20th July) at a private residence in Palos Verdes Estates in Los Angeles. His death is being treated as suicide.

His Linkin Park bandmate of 21 years, Mike Shinoda, was the first to confirmed the devastating news of Chester’s death on Twitter. He wrote: "Shocked and heartbroken, but it's true. An official statement will come out as soon as we have one.
