Claire Sweeney joins cast of 9 to 5 The Musical

Dolly Parton's smash-hit musical is back!

As the touring production of 9 to 5 continues, producers have announced that Claire Sweeney will be playing the role of Violet Newstead from 13th January until 5th March 2022. Claire takes over from Louise Redknapp who will be in the role until the end of the year (excluding Inverness).

The musical is based on the hit 1980 film of the same name which starred Jane Fonda, Lily Tomlin, and Dolly Parton who played three office workers who want to take on their "sexist, egotistical, lying, hypocritical bigot" of a boss.

Meet the cast:

Louise Redknapp as Violet Newstead

Louise plays the role of Violet Newstead which was played by Lily Tomlin in the original film.


Louise Redknapp reprises her role of Violet Newstead which she played at the Savoy Theatre during 9 to 5's West End run.


Louise rose to fame as a member of Eternal, one of the best-selling girl bands of the 90's and then went on to a very successful solo career.


She later went on to work as a TV presenter on many shows and documentaries including The Clothes Show, Soccer Aid and How Not To Get Old. She was a runner-up on Strictly Come Dancing in 2016.

Claire Sweeney as Violet Newstead (13th January 2022 onwards)

Claire takes on the role of Violet from 13th January 2022. She is probably best known for her role as Lindsey Corkhill in Brookside.

She has been in Chicago and Guys and Dolls on the West End, the national tour of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang and Educating Rita at the Menier Chocolate Factory.

Vivian Panka as Judy Bernly

Vivian plays the role of Judy Bernly which was played by Jane Fonda in the original film.


After starring in various musical theatre productions in The Netherlands, Vivian is excited to be making her UK debut with 9 to 5 the Musical.

Stephanie Chandos as Doralee Rhodes

Stephanie plays the role of Doralee Rhodes which was played by Dolly Parton in the original film.


Stephanie starred in the West End production of 9 to 5 The Musical where she was cover Doralee. Her other credits include the Royal Caribbean productions of Hairspray and We Will Rock You.

Sean Needham as Franklin Hart Jr.

Sean plays the role of Franklin Hart Jr. which was played by Dabney Coleman in the original film.


Sean's credits include the West End productions of 9 to 5 The Musical, Kinky Boots, Mamma Mia! and Wicked.

Julia J. Nagle as Roz Keith

Julia's credits include An American in Paris (Dominion Theatre, Asia Tour & Théatre du Châtelet, Paris), Aspects of Love (Hope Mill Theatre & Southwark Playhouse), Allegro (Southwark Playhouse), Dirty Dancing (Piccadilly Theatre & UK Tour) and Merrily We Roll Along (Theatr Clwyd).

The cast is completed by Russell Dickson, Alexander Bartles, Sierra Brewerton, Demmileigh Foster, Ross Lee Fowkes, Jon Reynolds, Kirsty Anne Shaw, Ricardo Spriggs, Grace Walker, Emily Woodford, Richard Taylor Woods, Emily Bull, Sonny Grieveson, Callum Henderson, Joshua Lear, Sarah-Marie Maxwell and Clayton Rosa.

Who wrote the musical adaptation?

The musical has a book by Patricia Resnick (who wrote the screenplay for the original film) and includes music and lyrics by the legendary Dolly Parton herself!
