Prince's unreleased instrumental 'Father's Song' has been revealed and it's beautiful

The song is from the upcoming 'Purple Rain' reissue.

Prince's beautiful unheard instrumental 'Father's Song' has been released from the upcoming reissue of the late singer's Purple Rain album.

If you were thinking that you'd already heard Father's Song, you would be correct. A portion of the track featured in the 1984 film Purple Rain, and other elements were worked into Computer Blue, from Prince and the Revolution's soundtrack album, Purple Rain.

Although we have heard snippets of the track before, this rendition marks the first official release of Prince's full five-and-a-half-minute take; and the result couldn't be better.

Coined by Rolling Stone as 'dreamlike', Father's Song is an ethereal instrumental take, which begins with a solo piano and gradually incorporates more electronic sounds.

Other songs to feature on the Purple Rain reissue will include 'Our Destiny/Roadhouse Garden', 'Katrina's Paper Dolls' and a studio version of 'Electric Intercourse'. The album is due for release on 23rd June.
