Planet Rock favourites and British hard rock heroes Thunder have announced their thirteenth studio album and released the blistering first single from it.

'Last One Out Turn Off The Lights' had its exclusive first play by Paul Anthony on Planet Rock Breakfast on its release.

Thunder frontman Danny Bowes, who hosts his very own show here on Planet Rock every Sunday morning, described the relief at finally releasing music after the craziness of 2020:

"I'll be honest, it's just a massive relief to get a song out finally. We finished the album in January, mixed it in March, and then COVID came along and basically that was it! We've been sitting on it ever since!"

"It's a hundred percent Thunder, and a hundred percent rock baby!"

"It's massively frustrating when you've got a new record that you've finished and you want people to hear it but you can't. But still, hey ho, we are there now. Hopefully people like the first tune, and they'll like the album even more. Because I'm telling you now: it's a hundred percent Thunder, and a hundred percent rock baby!"

Echoing Danny's sentiments, guitarist and songwriter Luke Morley says: "All the songs were written and recorded pre-COVID. But it is interesting how if you look at some of the tracks through the prism of COVID they still make a lot of sense."

After the chaos of 2020, 'Last One Out Turn Off The Lights' could easily be mistaken for world-ending lockdown rage. But, says Luke, "That was directly about Brexit, but you could apply it to everything else."

The subjects tackled on the album include depression, mental health, and diversity. 'All The Right Noises' also takes aim at Donald Trump in a song written from his perspective, as well as a song Luke describes as "Like the opposite of ‘My Generation'" in its message.

Recorded in the months leading up to the first COVID-19 lockdown, 'All The Right Noises' was originally due for release in September 2020, with an accompanying UK tour pencilled in for November 2020.

However, like the rest of the music industry, Thunder have had to reschedule the tour for May 2021, with American hard rockers Ugly Kid Joe providing noisy support, alongside the likes of fellow Planet Rock favourites Those Damn Crows, Massive Wagons, Kris Barras and Mason Hill joining for select dates.

Last year Thunder celebrated their 30th anniversary by releasing a greatest hits album, featuring tracks from their previous 12 studio albums, covers of classics by Led Zeppelin and the Rolling Stones, as well as a session recorded at our very own Planet Rock studios.
