Manchester music icons New Order have premiered their first piece of new music in five years, the uplifting electro-pop track ‘Be a Rebel’.

Instantly catchy and embracing the poppier side of New Order’s sound, ‘Be a Rebel’ is the band’s first musical morsel since the release of their ‘Music Complete’ album back in 2015.

New Order had planned to premiere their track alongside their US tour with the Pet Shop Boys, however that trek has now been postponed until autumn 2021 because of the coronavirus pandemic. New Order's one-off UK show at The O2 in London has also been pushed back until late next year.

Vocalist, guitarist and co-founder Bernard Sumner says of 'Be a Rebel': “In tough times we wanted to reach out with a new song. We can’t play live for a while, but music is still something we can all share together.”

New Order started teasing new music last week when they posted a cryptic photo of a murmuration of starlings emblazoned with the date 08 09 20. It has now transpired that this is the ‘Be A Rebel’ single artwork.

The band’s critically acclaimed tenth studio album ‘Music Complete’ topped the UK album chart when it was released in September 2015. It featured guest slots from The Killers’ Brandon Flowers on ‘Superheated’, Iggy Pop (‘Stray Dog’) and La Roux’s Elly Jackson (‘Tutti Frutti’ and ‘People on the High Line’).

On 2nd October, New Order will be releasing a definitive collection of their 1983 studio album ‘Power, Corruption & Lies’. The collection features the album remastered for the first time from the original analogue tape masters on LP and CD.

New Order formed in Manchester 40 years ago following the demise of Joy Division in the wake of Ian Curtis’ death.
