Richard Ashcroft drops cover of John Lennon's 'Bring On The Lucie (Freda Peeple)'

Richard Ashcroft has dropped his mysterious new single today (Friday 19th February). Although a lot of fans had assumed it would be an original song, Richard has actually blessed us with a cover of John Lennon's 'Bring On The Lucie (FREDA PEEPLE)'.
Sharing the song on Twitter in a similarly cryptic way as his announcement yesterday, Richard simply tweeted yet another barcode, this time featuring the song title - adding that the track has been performed by himself and written by the former Beatles legend.

The video mainly shows us clips of the former Verve frontman recording the track in the studio, which was originally written and released by Lennon in 1973 and featured on his album 'Mind Games'. Listen to the original below.

Richard announced that he'd be releasing a new single on Twitter yesterday, in true cryptic Ashcroft style by simply posting an image of a barcode with the text, 'New Single 00:01 19/02/2021'.
Fans - including Oasis' Liam Gallagher - commented on the post in their droves with excitement. Liam wrote his classic line, 'C’mon you know', while another added, 'What a stature! What a grandeur! A man that takes us to the meaning of musical power!! Richard Ashcroft!'
This will be Richard's first release since his fifth solo album 'Natural Rebel' in October 2018, featuring singles 'Surprised by the Joy', 'Born to Be Strangers' and 'That's When I Feel It', as well as boasting a Top 4 position in the mainstream UK album charts.
He's also got some live shows in the pipeline, tentatively planned for 21st and 22nd May 2021 at the London Palladium, for which tickets have completely sold out.

Richard, of course, rose to fame as frontman of alt-rock Manchester-based band The Verve, having formed in 1990. The band originally split in 1999, but have regrouped on various occasions - including a headline slot at Glastonbury Festival in 2008.
