Met Office issues Northern Ireland a yellow weather warning for thunderstorms
A yellow weather warning for thunderstorms across Northern Ireland from 1pm until 10pm has been issued by the Met Office.
During Monday afternoon thunderstorms are likely to develop over parts of Wales and the Midlands before moving northwards into northern England and develop over Northern Ireland.
These are likely to bring some heavy rain to places with 20 mm of rain possible in 1-2 hours but also the risk of hail and thunder.
What to expect:
• There is a good chance driving conditions will be affected by spray, standing water and/or hail, leading to longer journey times by car and bus
• Delays to train services are possible
• Some short term loss of power and other services is likely
• A chance of some flooding of homes and businesses or some damage to a few buildings or structures from lightning strikes.
Northern Ireland Weather Forecast:
Tonight: Any showers soon easing leaving a bright evening. Mostly dry with clear spells overnight, but thickening cloud across western counties may bring a little rain by morning. Southeasterly breeze strengthening. Minimum temperature 8 °C.
Tuesday: Morning rain mostly clearing east but some cloud persisting. Dry for a time morning and early afternoon but further, perhaps heavy rain later. Fresh south to southeasterly winds easing. Maximum temperature 18 °C.
Outlook for Wednesday to Friday: Mainly dry and warm by day. Heavy band of rain Wednesday night, otherwise mostly dry with just a few showers Thursday and Friday. Breezy at times.
