When did Jackie Brambles join Greatest Hits Radio?

Jackie joined our brilliant line-up of presenters in January 2022, and of her decision to start The Evening Show with Jackie Brambles, she said: "It’s all Simon Mayo’s fault…he said 'Oi, Brambles, come and join Greatest Hits Radio, it’s got phenomenal music, and brilliant listeners.' And he’s not wrong, as I found out for myself making the Women In Music series for the station earlier this year."

Has Jackie Brambles worked with Simon Mayo before?

Back in the 80s, Jackie worked with Simon as his weather and travel reporter, and he couldn't wait for the pair to be reunited. "Jackie is a top radio presenter and I’m delighted we’ll be reunited at Greatest Hits Radio," Simon said.

He continued: "She was always a delight to work with - we always seemed to get hysterical at the same time. I’m really looking forward to her new show!"

Check out this photo of Jackie and Simon from 1990!

What can listeners expect from Jackie Brambles' show on Greatest Hits Radio?

According to Jackie: "Great music and great conversations! Every night we’re joined by one of your favourite artists of the 70s, 80s and 90s for an in-depth chat about the highs and lows of their careers and their musical influences over the years.

"I start the conversation and they choose the tunes that are special to them. I’m also so pleased that we’re getting a really positive reaction to the 'me time' feature that we do at 9.30pm every night around mental health.

"I’ve had some amazingly honest chats with listeners who are struggling a bit with the challenges of life, as we all do at times and I think it’s a relief to hear that we’re all in the same boat."

What is Jackie Brambles' favourite thing about presenting her show?

We asked Jackie this and she told us: "I have to say that when I’m engaged in a conversation with an artist I’m totally in my happy place. So many of the guests on the evening show are artists I interviewed back in the day and there’s something so joyful about being able to reconnect and share their life’s journey with our listeners.

"One of the benefits of ageing is being able to look back on our experiences – good and bad – with a new perspective and there’s something magical about that being a common thread we can all relate to."

What is Jackie's go-to driving song?

Jackie joked: "I rarely get control of the in-car entertainment and am forced to listen to whatever my kids are currently into."

She added: "But actually their taste in music is pretty good. But when I do get to choose, it’s usually a Bruce Springsteen album, ‘The Rising’ or ‘Western Stars’ are currently on repeat."

Who inspires Jackie Brambles?

On International Women's Day 2022, we asked Jackie who inspired her growing up and Jackie revealed that it was Blondie's Debbie Harry.

She said: "For me, Debbie Harry was everything growing up. I bought 'Parallel Lines' with my pocket money when I was 11-years-old and I'm just as inspired by her now as I was then. Powerful, cool, strong and talented. Always was, always will be."

Which song is Jackie's good times anthem?

She revealed that it's ‘Summer Of 69’ by Bryan Adams.

Which TV shows has Jackie Brambles been on?

Fans of Loose Women will recognise Jackie Brambles from her time as a host from 2005 to 2009, which arose from her taking over from Kaye Adams in 2006 after doing several guest appearances.

Reflecting on her TV roles, Jackie said: "I’ve been very fortunate over the years to have had such a varied experience on TV...my first ever TV job was presenting Top of the Pops, then I moved to the USA where I was a correspondent for GMTV doing both hard news and Hollywood reporting in Los Angeles.

"One day I’d be reporting on a shooting or the presidential election and the next on the red carpet at a movie premiere or the Oscars… Never a dull moment!"

How different is presenting on radio compared to TV?

According to Jackie presenting on radio and presenting on TV is "Completely different!"

She commented: "I much prefer radio, you can create a vibe on radio that is just not within your control on TV. Interviews tend to be a lot more authentic and unguarded when the cameras aren’t around and to be honest, I can’t be bothered with all the faff of the hair and make-up palava for telly!"

How did Jackie Brambles get into radio presenting?

Jackie started her career in radio when she was just 19-years-old and explained how it all happened: "I was on a gap year and I got a job at a local radio station in Scotland, answering the phones, getting coffee. And a DJ didn't turn up one night and the boss wasn't there. I was the only person in the building and they said ‘Do you know how to work the desk?’ and I said ‘Yes I do’ and they said 'Well go on. Play your records and tell the time, talk about the weather and don’t say anything stupid!'"

What is the most incredible performance Jackie has seen live?

"I'm a huge Springsteen fan. So I have seen so many of his concerts which are amazing because they’re so long, they’re like three hours long," Jackie told us.

She added: "It's in the more intimate venues when you get closer to the artists that it's really special. I saw The Rolling Stones at The Wiltern theatre in LA and I got to go to a soundcheck for Fleetwood Mac, where literally I was the audience, so that was pretty incredible."

What is Jackie Brambles doing now?

We wanted to see how Jackie Brambles likes to spend her time and she told us: "I’m a mum to two teenagers and it is their life’s mission to ensure that I don’t get a lot of time to do anything else but tend to their every whim. However, I do manage to sneak in a daily radio show on Greatest Hits Radio when they’re not looking.... That’s my ‘me time’!"

Some of them I literally haven’t talked to in 30 years and so it's just lovely to be able to see how they’ve developed as people. Everyone has changed over the years and we've all got a lot in common, we're all bit more chill, we've all got kids. So it just feels like one big long reunion."
