The Rolling Stones have premiered the previously unheard song ‘Scarlet’ featuring Led Zeppelin legend Jimmy Page and late Family, Blind Faith and Traffic star Rick Grech.

Billed as a “holy grail for any Stones devotee”, ‘Scarlet’ was recorded by The Rolling Stones in October 1974 and it appears on the upcoming 2020 reissue of the band’s seminal album ‘Goats Head Soup’.

Featuring guitars from Jimmy Page and bass from Rick Grech, Keith Richards explains how the collaboration with Jimmy came about: ‘’My recollection is we walked in at the end of a Zeppelin session.

“They were just leaving, and we were booked in next and I believe that Jimmy decided to stay. We weren’t actually cutting it as a track, it was basically for a demo, a demonstration, you know, just to get the feel of it, but it came out well, with a line up like that, you know, we better use it.‘’

Mick Jagger adds: “I remember first jamming this with Jimmy and Keith in Ronnie’s basement studio. It was a great session.”

The Rolling Stones – ‘Scarlet’ featuring Jimmy Page and Rick Grech:

‘Scarlet’ is one of three unreleased Rolling Stones tracks that appear on the reissue of ‘Goats Head Soup’, which lands on Friday 4th September. ‘Criss Cross’ was premiered earlier this month, and the other song is called ‘All The Rage’.

‘Goats Head Soup’ is available on a variety of formats including four-disc CD and vinyl box set editions with a veritable smorgasbord of unreleased studio and live material.

Alongside the trio of unreleased songs, the 10-track bonus disc of unreleased material also includes different versions of tracks like ‘100 Years Ago’ and ‘Hide Your Love’, with further unissued mixes by esteemed producer Glyn Johns.

The box set editions of ‘Goats Head Soup’ will also boast a 15-track live album called 'Brussels Affair', which was recorded in autumn 1973 in the Belgian capital. Mixed by Bob Clearmountain, the album was previously only available in The Rolling Stones' “official bootleg” series of live recordings in 2012.

Other delights in the CD and vinyl box sets include the ten-track album in 5.1 Surround Sound, Dolby Atmos and Hi-Res mixes, along with the videos for ‘Dancing With Mr. D’, ‘Silver Train’ and ‘Angie’.

There’s also an exclusive 120-page book will feature a remarkable array of photographs, essays by writers Ian McCann, Nick Kent and Daryl Easlea and faithful reproductions of four tour posters from 1973.

Back in April, The Rolling Stones premiered their first new song in eight years, ‘Living in A Ghost Town’, which they created and recorded in Los Angeles and London and during lockdown.
